A long time ago, Koko decided to try out for the school play. Back in November, it was a different play until the director discovered some inappropriate content. Fast forward a bit and we discovered she had chosen “The King and I”. Sweet! Since they save the bigger roles for the upperclassmen, Koko knew she had a shot at a speaking part.
She got Anna.
If you’ve ever seen “The King and I”, you know that’s big. Huge. And she totally nailed it.
Emma, as a sixth-grader, was one of two youngsters to get a speaking part. She totally nailed it.
I watched all four performances and my heart burst with each one, I love watching my girls perform, and they did it so beautifully. I know, I’m the mom, I’m biased. Yes. But these girls knocked it out of the park, for reals.
Their friends were in the play, so was our entire carpool. That worked out nicely since many of the practices went until 5:00, and we didn’t have to worry much about transportation.
My Mom and Dad left for their mission last Saturday, but were in Salt Lake for some training before they headed to Boston on Thursday. I can’t help but feel like we were granted a tender mercy that they were able to come down from Salt Lake and attend on Tuesday night. What a blessing! As we hugged after the play, my mom said, “See you next year!” and that was our final goodbye. I feel so blessed to have seen them one more time and that they were able to experience this wonderful performance.
I’m telling you, it was amazing! Koko started the show with a solo and I sat in awe watching my daughter sing. Where did she come from? She was so polished and professional! So unlike her mother, I could hardly believe my eyes. I had run lines with her and practiced songs, but on the stage with her microphone, full make-up, and an audience, she really started to shine. Ms. Anna Leonowens. Amazing.
Then, here comes Emma. Wow! She stole the show with her cute personality as Princess Ying Yaowalak, one of the king’s favored children. She performed as Little Topsy in ‘The Small Cabin of Uncle Thomas’ which the king’s children and wives performed for the visiting diplomats. She was adorable.
Every performance got better and better, it was fun to see their friends shine too. Tessa, Sam, Caroline, and Abby were all from our ward, cuties! Annie and Aubrey had main roles, and their voices and acting were unbelievably good. This play rocked!
We had so many family and friends come support the girls, it blew me away. It meant so much that they would come, it made each night even better.

A huge thank you to Miss Melville, Mrs. Perkins, and Miss Conner for all their hard work for our kids. Incredible!
