Stake Women’s Conference

Wednesday was New Beginnings, Saturday was Stake Women’s Conference, Sunday I taught the combined YW lesson on the Plan of Salvation. It’s been a Fill-My-Spiritual-Bucket kind of week.
As usual, Women’s Conference was amazing! The theme was The Family and they had magnificent women from our Stake speak. These women have faced devastating trials and here they were, speaking to us with grace and humility and a firm testimony of our Savior.
One sister married later in life, her husband’s first wife died during childbirth of their 7th child. They have since had 4 kids together. Amazing. Another sister lost her husband when he was 39 years old (my age now) and they had five little kids. She remarried later to a man who had lost his wife and had 6 kids. Amazing. One sister didn’t even make it to speak because she has terminal cancer and had to have emergency surgery a few days ago. She sent her talk to be read by her visiting teachers. Amazing.

We had a nice family day that ended with a bang..homemade burgers and fries…Yummmmm!

New Beginnings!!

This is my first New Beginnings as a Young Women’s leader. It was awesome! Our dear President created a knock-off of the t.v. show “The Voice”.
We had our four judges: Adam Divine, Ceelo Mean, Christian Attributa, and Fake Shelton. Our girls, Seo, Koko, Kaitlyn, and Nikki played them, respectively. They were hilarious! Totally in character.
2014 January YW, Super Bowl 082  2014 January YW, Super Bowl 083
Our host, Pray Daily (Emily) kept things going. Each new Beehive was introduced by a current Young Women, then read a quote about the value they were representing. After they finished, the judges (some or all) turned around to give their advice. The new Beehive picked a team (the good guys, Christian and Adam) and joined right side. 2014 January YW, Super Bowl 087
We even stopped for this commercial  - take a look.
We continued until each of our 7 new Beehives was introduced! It’s a great group and includes our very own Emma!
2014 January YW, Super Bowl 085We had a beautiful musical number, then heard from a sister in our ward who just got home from her mission in Russia.
2014 January YW, Super Bowl 086Dakota and Nikki both earned several ribbons for their Personal Progress. Yay!

Bishop Brady wrapped things up, he is truly a great man, inspired, and close to our Savior. I feel very blessed to have him as our Bishop.

It was an amazing night! Welcome to Young Women’s Emma!!

Iron Chef, Sunridge Ward Edition

We have a cool ward. Recently, one of the families in our ward decided to have an Iron Chef competition…secret ingredient: Citrus. There was a panel of judges and everything.
Instead of everyone cooking at the church, we all brought our dishes already prepared.
We signed up for an appetizer, so we made Chicken Nachos with fresh pico de gallo with lime juice, topped with sour cream. Yeah, they were good. 2014 January YW, Super Bowl 077
Everything was good. We had appetizers, main courses, salads, and desserts. Yum-a-licious!! Everything had something citrus in it…lemons, oranges, limes…it was delish! 2014 January YW, Super Bowl 076Families were invited, so they had “Ratatouille” playing for the kids, along with a craft table where they could make Valentines while the old folks visited.

It was a great night with great neighbors! We didn’t win, but we’ll get them next time…

Ward Christmas Party

This year, our Ward had a Christmas Breakfast.  It was wonderful! It was also nice because last year, I was in charge of all the food.  It was much easier to just show up and enjoy the show.  I did make a gluten-free breakfast casserole (no bread or soup), so we just brought that directly to our table.  It was so yummy!
The Primary, Young Men, and Young Women combined to do a short program about the Nativity.  Look at cute Mason and Sadie as Joseph and Mary! 2013 December Christmas 073Koko participated as one of the narrators.  Here she is by Conner.  During practice, Conner’s mom walked over to me and asked, “Do you believe in betrothal?” Yes. “They look good together, we should just arrange this right now, I would love it if my kids married a Heugly!”
I took that as a compliment.  Dakota thought it was funny, but I guess she wants to pick out her own husband…whatever.
2013 December Christmas 076
Our dear friends, the Knudsens just found out they are moving to Nebraska for work, they will leave after Christmas.  I’m so sad for us (even though I’m happy for them).  Anne has been my visiting teacher and friend for years, I will really miss her cute family.  Nebraska is lucky to get them!  It was quite touching to see their family get up and sing together.2013 December Christmas 079Emma, Colin, Camri, and Beau participated in the Primary Choir…it was the perfect way to celebrate Christmas.  2013 December Christmas 084
They showed a slideshow about all the missionaries serving from our ward.  I was bawling.  These Elders and Sisters were just here, so young.  Now they are out there serving the Lord, facing challenges, growing up.  Koko grabbed Joe’s hand and whispered, “5 years!”  Nope.  I’m not ready for her to leave like that.  Although I am grateful for the example that these missionaries are to my kids.  We have almost as many girls out as boys, I love it!  I love my sweet Sunridge Ward.

Alex is baptized!

This cute girl turned 8 and decided to become a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  It was a very cool day, and these cuties sang with the voices of angels!  Alex is in French Immersion and is my little French-speaking buddy, I love this girl! 2013 December Christmas 0232013 December Christmas 024
After her baptism and confirmation, we went to Bucca di Beppo for lunch.  Jake and Liz had major flooding in their house earlier this year and are undergoing some remodeling, so we journeyed elsewhere for the after-party.  The kids that weren’t sick on Thanksgiving, were sick today, so we didn’t bring them. Camri was devastated to miss her best cousin’s baptism, but she was thinking about her all day!
Felicitations chere Alex!!

Young Women’s

I am off on a new adventure.  Right before we went to Hawaii, I was released as the secretary in our ward Relief Society.  I absolutely loved working with Luanne, Louise, and Mikel.  We became very close, even though I was the new kid and came in after they had been together for a year.  I love the women in our ward and feel blessed to get to know them better, we really do have a great ward.  We knew this was coming, so getting released wasn’t the big surprise.
The big surprise came when we got home from Hawaii and the bishop issued a new calling…1st counselor in Young Womens.  I was so excited!  My first thought was “GIRLS CAMP!! With Koko AND Emma!!”
I get to serve with the Mia Maids, which Dakota joined a couple weeks after I was called.  It’s been fun to be with her and the others girls, I really love this new assignment.  I haven’t been in Young Womens since I was one, so times have changed a bit.  1YW in excellence
We were thrown into it quickly as we had about 3 weeks to plan and carry out Young Womens in Excellence.  It turned out beautifully, thanks to everyone’s efforts. I even sang a duet with Michelle, which I mostly did to show Koko that I could do hard things. It turned out okay, though.  I also made a slideshow of the girls over the year and how they stood in holy places…girls camp, temple, activities, etc.  The girls spoke about women through time that made an impact on them.  Koko tricked me by making me think she was going to talk about her recently released YW leaders.  She wrote a beautiful poem, and yes, I cried.
It was a lovely evening, and I am looking forward to many more adventures with this group!
2Koko
Here is her poem, I’m not quite sure how I deserve such a wonderful daughter as this!
Mom Poem
Tonight my job is to present,
A person that means a lot in my head,
The person I chose as you may know
Is my mother, Marci Joan.

She is amazing in word and deed,
Through God’s eyes is how she sees.
She is the most loving and caring mom
My nickname for her is the “bomb”.

She’s my best friend, she gave me life
She taught me to deal with problems and strife
She’s always there to lend me a hand,
When I’m with her in Holy Places I stand.

Most of all, she loves my dad,
Which makes me feel extremely glad.
They are the most perfect couple ever,
They will always be together, forever.

Me and Her, Her and I,
We always see eye to eye.
We are twins inside and out,
We even both like sourkraut!

I love my mom, my mom loves me.
She loves my dad and my whole family.
She is my hero from the very start,
She will always have a place deep in my heart.

In her I see the light of Christ.
And no thoughts of a heist.
She serves everyone in her midst,
Even though sometimes they make her moods twist.

I start loving her more every day,
And now I don’t even know what to say,
Mom, you are my hero!

Happy Birthday, you old lady.

Since Dakota’s birthday fell on our Ward Trunk-or-Treat night (again) and she insisted she wanted to go (again), we did presents the night before.
The kids all gave her fun stuff like a curling iron, blow dryer, hair styling products, and games.  I think she was happy…
