Jr. Jazz Sportsmanship

We’ve played a lot of Jr. Jazz games this year. Joe determined to create a team out of our football players to do some off-season conditioning. It’s been a blast! We’ve won every game (by a lot), but more importantly, the boys have really come together as a team. It’s been fun to watch them improve their teamwork, passing, and camaraderie. They have been playing on Wednesday nights and Saturday mornings.
We played a Wednesday night game against another wonderful team. Their boys were athletic, cheerful, and kind. Their coach was encouraging, motivating, and positive. I sat at the score table to keep track of the points so I could hear him talking to his boys. There was not a negative word and only high praise. He even cheered our team when we made a good play. One of their players had down syndrome, but he was quite the athlete. He made more than half of their team’s points.
This was easily the best game of the season.

Cousins rock

We try to support our cousins.  With dance, soccer, football, basketball, baseball…and more, we have lots of opportunities to go cheer for our family.
This time, it was Michael’s baseball game.  I can’t believe how grown up he is.  2013 4 April 091
It was a little chilly, but fun anyway!!  Go Mike!

Jr. Jazz Banquet

I use the term “Banquet” loosely.  It was just the boys and some pizza.  They passed out their trophies and pictures and had a fun party.
Since the assistant coach offered to host, Joe offered to pick up the pizza…we must keep them safe. 2013 24 February Joe phone, jake homecoming, colin birthday 055

Jr. Jazz

Well, our Jr. Jazz season is over…mostly.  We still have our final banquet (pizza and a movie at our house) where we will hand out trophies and pictures.  But, the last game has been played.
It was fun to have Joe as Head Coach this year, I think he loved it as much as Colin did.  They won a few games, lost a few games, but played their hearts out.  Several of the boys were from football and others were from school or the neighborhood.  It was fun to watch these boys play ball, they are some great kids!  2013 2 February Marci phone 233

Good season boys!!

Young Women’s basketball

This is like no other basketball.  They start off with a prayer, then they recite the theme:
“We are daughters of a Heavenly Father who loves us, and we love Him.  We will stand as witnesses of God at all times, and in all things, and in all places as we strive to live the Young Women values, which are: Faith, Divine Nature, Individual Worth, Knowledge, Choice and Accountability, Good Works, Integrity, and Virtue.  We believe as we come to accept and act upon these values, we will be prepared to strengthen home and family, make and keep sacred covenants, receive the ordinances of the temple, and enjoy the blessing of exaltation.”
They proceed to cheer for everyone there and even offered up players for our team, who was a little short on players.  They high-fived, they laughed, they played hard, they apologized for fouls, they had excellent sportsmanship, and every girl had a great time.  I think the final score was 10-12, but they had a great time! It was very fun to watch, quite different from the Elder’s Quorum games of yore where they usually seek blood.  Way to go girls! 2013 2 February Marci phone 078 2013 2 February Marci phone 081

They lost their first two games, and won the next two games.  We’re hoping to keep the streak going!

Basketball has begun

Well, it’s time for Jr. Jazz, but this time, Joe’s the head coach.  Colin loves when Dad coaches, and they have a bunch of kids from football and from the neighborhood.  These are Colin’s peeps.  20121127_183848

Little League Banquet

It was a great year with a great team and great families and great coaches.  We ended with a bang at our final banquet.

Scrimmage

Alright, I know I talk about football a lot, it’s our life right now, okay?
My lovely parents have an assignment to work in the temple every Saturday, which means they haven’t been able to come to any of Colin’s games.  So, when we scheduled a scrimmage for one of their Wednesday practices, Mom and Dad came to watch.  It was so fun!20121010_170434
Dakota brought her homework, the kids played in the park, we cheered for our team, and Colin had some great plays!  20121010_171847

Tailgate reward

Early in the season, we volunteered to help out with the tailgate dinner.  Every Friday after practice, Colin’s little league team has a tailgate to get ready for the big game the next day.  Since we got ours over with early, we’ve been enjoying Friday dinners at practice.  We’ve had pulled pork sandwiches, pizza, chili dogs, nachos, sloppy joes, hamburgers, baked potato bar, and tons of yummy fruit, salads, chips, and desserts.  It’s been great to have Friday dinner prepared by someone else!!
Look at these happy faces!20121005_191354

More Football!

This time, in Park City.  First of all, it is beautiful up there in the fall!!  Second of all, even though we didn’t win, I have to say that the Park City player’s and parents were good winners and good sports.  This is not always the case in Little League football….in fact, we caught the end of the game right before us and the parents of the winning team were out of control. And rude. And super annoying. And contentious. And they were winning, by a lot.  Not cool, guys.
So, we enjoyed our surroundings and the beautiful scenery….
