Husky Football Banquet

Well the season is over, and Joe strategically planned the banquet for AFTER all the playoff games…just in case.  I love how he offered hope to these boys until the very last minute, we have a great team!
We reserved the banquet room at Rock Creek Pizza and had salad and pizza buffet.  The food was good, the company was great!12banquet211banquetIn Hawaii, we found these blankets so we bought them for the coaches.  I embroidered each coach’s name on his blanket to thank them for all their hard work this season.  13banquet312banquet10Joe passed out special awards to some of the boys…O-Line MVPs, Defensive MVP, and offensive MVP.  It’s nice to notice the kids that try a little harder.14banquet4

12banquet4It was such a fun night! I worked on a slideshow to end the season…it turned out pretty well if I do say so myself. Thanks to Grandpa and Dad who took amazing pictures all season, then sent them to me.  Great kids come from great families.  12banquet512banquet612banquet7Some of these kids are going to play on a Jr. Jazz together, so we’ll see them soon.  But I sure will miss the boys that we won’t see again, even in football, because they’ll be on the younger team next year. 12banquet8One of our awesome moms arranged to gather money from the rest of the team and they presented Joe and I some gift cards to say thank you.  When Kyler gave it to me, I kissed his head.  These boys feel like sons to me.  It’s been a great season and I’m already excited for next year!!12banquet9

Football to the third power

To us, there are three kinds of football during the season.   1) Little League Football.  2) BYU football.   3) Bears Football.
First and always first, is our little league team.  With Joe coaching, it has taken on a whole new dimension in our lives.  We talk about plays at dinner.  All our kids know all the kids on the team.  We’ve made friends with parents and siblings.  We love our Huskies.
Joe was able to make the team picture day by the skin of his teeth and quickly left after we were done to catch an airplane to St. Louis.  We were glad he made it for pictures, but sad he had to leave.  These kids are just awesome!
2013 9 September M Phone 4692013 9 September M Phone 474We had our game in Herriman and it was a beautiful day! Sunny, with a hint of a breeze (just kidding, it was super-windy-Herriman-style). We even had visitors, Brad, Emily, Tanner, and Easton joined us, even though today is also the BYU – Utah game and they were wearing red.  We love them anyway…

We
didn’t win, but we did get sunburned and were also able to see a few friends from our Herriman days. Good times!
Naturally, we had to head home and change our colors.  Time for the Cougars!!  Since we don’t have cable (yet), Peach generously offered to let us watch the game at his house.  We grabbed some treats and were on our way.  Go Blue!

The kids had fun playing and Koko was taking care of her little sunburnt self.  Boo. 2013 9 September M Phone 5332013 9 September M Phone 534
The kids made up a show and dazzled us at half-time.  They had an adorable exchange student living there, Cannon, who was the same age as Autumn and Emma.  They had a blast!2013 9 September M Phone 537
We won’t talk about the outcome of the game, because I want to maintain a cheery disposition.  Suffice it to say, the Utah fans were happy.
The next day, the Bears played the Steelers…Joe’s team vs. Justin’s team.  Naturally, Mark and Sue had us all over to celebrate the rivalry.  We had yummy food and treats and desserts, but the most delicious part was that the BEARS WON!  Wow, we needed a victory this weekend. Justin’s family is all Utah fans because Lauren cheers for Utah this year, so they had their good game yesterday.  Win-win.  I will say, that although we bleed blue, I will always, always, always cheer for Lauren!

Football and a Wedding

Saturday, we had our football game in Magna.  As we pulled up to the park, it began to rain.  Then it began to thunder and lightening.  Not good.  But especially not good today since we have a wedding to go to at 4:00 on the other side of the mountains.  Hmmmm.  2013 9 September M Phone 481The boys huddled in the dugout next to our field and ran through their plays.  They played hard in the rain, and even though they didn’t win, we got our first touchdown!  You would’ve thought we won the Super Bowl! In fact, in the huddle after the score, one of the boys asked Joe, “Coach, did that make us win?!!” Joe replied, “We totally won that drive, man!”  They were stoked!

The rain didn’t stop the entire time.  It was cold and wet and wonderful!  Great job, boys!
After the game, we very quickly left and headed across the valley to Heber.  I got dressed on the way and had to wipe off the wet grass stuck to my feet.  My nice parents met us there and took the kids to their home in Midway while Joe and I attended the wedding.  It was beautiful!  We have known Teresa since we’ve lived here, but we knew her kids even better…they spent a lot of time with our kids.  Talia is friends with Koko, Canyen is friends with Colin, Mekayla’s awesome, and they feel like family to us.  We were thrilled to be a part of their day, it was magical!
Teresa looked stunning, and we love Todd.  We were very happy for this wonderful family!
2013 9 September M Phone 485Canyen looked like such a stud.  He told Joe he was sorry he missed the game.  It’s okay, Canyen, this is a pretty good reason…2013 9 September M Phone 484
Dinner was served after the ceremony, it was delicious and beautiful and inside the stables.  They cleaned it up real nice…2013 9 September M Phone 487There was a photo booth, favors, desserts, tons of food…it was so fancy.  2013 9 September M Phone 488I love these kids very much!2013 9 September M Phone 4902013 9 September M Phone 491
They even had a s’mores bar, with a long flame for cookin the marshmellows.  So fun! 2013 9 September M Phone 492      2013 9 September M Phone 493
Beautiful Teresa, we are so happy for you!

The happy couple.  Love these guys…2013 9 September M Phone 495We went to my parents afterward and the kids were done for the day.  We were going to go get them and bring them to the reception, but because of the weather decided just to pack it in and head home.  I think it was the right call, it’s been a long and wonderful day!2013 9 September M Phone 496

Home Game!!

We had our first home game at Mount Jordan Middle School.  I signed up to help in the snack shack that morning, so it was a long day….but fun!!
Joe brought the gang later, then my Mom and Dad also joined us.  It was nice and hot.  2013 9 September M Phone 4192013 9 September M Phone 4212013 9 September M Phone 422  2013 9 September M Phone 423
Our awesome parents hold the banner and line up to high-5 the kids at every halftime.  2013 9 September M Phone 425
Again, not a win, but we’ll get ‘em next time!  Way to go Huskies!2013 9 September M Phone 426After we ate and took the kids home, Joe and I left for the BYU game that night.  At work, Joe got tickets to the game and the big tailgate dinner…fun!!
As we were driving to the stadium, we saw this:
2013 9 September M Phone 427It was bookin’ it across the sky, then the rain began to fall….hard and fast.  We were on University Parkway when it hit.  It was so windy and stormy that we had tree branches hitting into our car.  Obviously, the game would be delayed.  So we stopped at a sporting goods store and looked around for a while.  It wasn’t letting up, but we decided to brave the storm anyway.
As we headed to the stadium, we noticed that every intersection was flooded and sometimes the water was as high as the car doors.  I got nervous about leaving the kids that long (it started almost two hours late!) and I also got nervous that we might not be able to get out.  So we bagged it and headed home, grabbing pizza on the way.

Unfortunately, we cancelled cable because…well, because it’s a waste of money.  But when football season comes around, it gets a little harder.  So we listened to BYU beat Texas on the radio and followed it on Twitter…just not the same.  As of this writing, we have renewed our cable and now have it for the rest of football season (and maybe for a little bit of Project Runway).
In any case, we had a fun night with the kids, watched Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, and had a great night.  Who needs cable anyway?

Random Fun

We are a bit consumed with football…this year, we opted for the break-away banner so we can use it at every game.  Jerseys, family packets…we’re all set!2013 9 September M Phone 3352013 9 September M Phone 337   2013 9 September M Phone 339
Annie likes to protect me when we take the kids to school. She said she would punch the bad guys…thanks Annie! 2013 9 September M Phone 340Friends, football, it must be fall!
